Historical Context

Hurricane Agnes swept across the Middle Atlantic states causing heavy, constant rain in June of 1972.  Record-breaking floods followed in late June, including in Allegany County, where the Genesee River crested at 23 feet on June 21 and crested again at 24 feet on June 23.
